About Me

My photo
I'm Trenny and my philosophy is rather simple-I believe there are only 2 forces in this world, Love or Fear. My goal is to try to see things through the eyes of love, but I am fallible and do not always succeed. My professional career at the moment is that of a fashion stylist in New York, but my interests are varied. This blog is the like a blog ‘magazine/newspaper/journal', where I’ve combined all the elements of things that I love to learn through those mediums myself. Some life journaling, lots of music. A little health, natural product talk and recipe sharing. Random musings on life experiences, a little style, art and humour. Environment issues too as nature is our greatest gift. I hope it teaches you something, makes you laugh, or gets you interested in something different. If it fires you up,I welcome learning all different points of view. I hope that what I share, including my mistakes, encourages you. *In the end, I believe we are all each other's teachers, so whatever you might be inspired to say/share with me through this blog- good and bad- I fully welcome it. I learn just as much from you. Happiness and Love xoxo TrennyLynn - trennylynn@gmail.com

Healthy Face Scrub/Mask- Cost?Less Than $1.00

I always encourage you to try and use the things that go onto your body in their most natural forms. Many of my suggestions can usually be found in your kitchen. I've shared my favorite body scrub in the past and today, I wanted to share another simple one. It's the 2 ingredient face mask/scrub. No $45.oo jars, chemicals, dyes or perfumes and your skin will be glowing!

* 3 Tbsp natural cane or fine ground turbinado sugar (Make sure sugar is fine not course as the skin on your face is delicate)
* 1/4 cup of honey

*Simply stir these two up in a little bowl, scoop out and very gently scrub a dub dub your face for a minute or two. After you scrub, leave it on for about 5 minutes. The natural sugars in both the honey and the sugar cane have natural enzymes and acids that clear dead, dry skin and bring back natural health. You are, literally, feeding your skin! It is the largest organ of your body, so feed it and treat it well. :)

Sarah Borges and The Broken Singles- Diabolito

PBS- Friday Nights- 10:30 pm Eastern Standard Time-"Sun Sessions"

Great show where they spotlight more unknown and Indie bands playing an acoustic set at the famous 'Sun Studios' in Memphis, Tennessee. Well worth watching anytime as you never know who you will catch. Sarah can rock, but find the live stuff where she's raw. The polished videos don't live up to the true grittiness and tough girl swagger she has live.

ps--The song officially starts at 45 seconds if you'd like to skip thru her bit of talking at the start. :)

Global Warming. It's For Real and It's Happening.

When I was 19, I worked at a healthfood store. The clients, the owner and those of us who worked there, were, I guess you could say, rather 'hippie-ish'. Hippie-ish in a sort of early 90's kind of trendy way. Yes, we did lots of cliche things- drank wheat grass juice, had acoustic nights where the artists would sing about love and do Crosby, Stills and Nash covers The store would host events like "Stop Nuclear Radiation" with petitions and so on. But we were, deep down, genuine about our efforts, really. As predictable, and cliche as some of it seemed from the outside, I always believed ( and still do) that I was, at least, part of a group of people that were trying to live more consciously. It was a good start to my adult life, even if it was a bit' hippie extreme'. (Hey, at least I didn't have hairy armpits)
Anyhow, with the latest global warming trends, and the current flood tragedies in Pakistan and China, I am reminded of this time in my life because of a bumper sticker I remember having on my car . Yes, I even fell victim to the proverbial bumper sticker of the activist. I don't do it anymore though, as my car doesn't have to be my political platform. Um, yeah I get it, it's a car. Haha Anyhow, the one I had at the time said "Think Globally, Act Locally". It was meant to be a reference to recycling, but I put it on because I thought it related to everything. Changing your relationship with yourself to watch the relationships around you change.Make a garden and have a teeny effect on the oxygen levels on nearby areas, etc. Acting on a small scale for a bigger effect.
I think of all this as I am finally, today, voicing my anger and concern with what has been on my mind for months. The weather- the environment- (not to mention the economy, the ongoing war) is out of control, and we are very, very foolish not to realize it is in direct relation to society's selfishness and greed. (BP oil spill anyone?) That the shifts in the weather patterns, and the destructive effects it is having, are directly related to our declining morals and lack of respect for our beautiful, natural surroundings. Did you know the reason China is now experiencing this major flooding right now? Flooding that is taking lives faster than they can count? While torrential rains are the direct cause, it's the cutting down of thousands of trees that once rested on major cliffs and hills that normally protect these rains from invading, that has left the dry hills exposed, thus allowing water to flow freely into villages and small city tributaries. Watching a mother weep over a blanket covered infant who had drown, and Pakistan children squished against a fence trying to reach for bread, makes it clear to me that we are destroying the earth by killing our natural resources. Resources that have been put here to protect us. And for what? For more shopping malls, and cars and fast food restaurants? The basic human needs are so much more basic than what general society tricks you into thinking. I was at the ocean the other day and it was more violent than I'd ever seen it and it scared me.

Don't listen to the TV or be jealous of your neighbor or crave too many 'things' outside of yourself. You don't need 10 purses and more shoes, and that TGIF salad with fried food in a neon lit environment. Please re-cycle, buy local foods and support your farmers. Turn the water off when you brush your teeth. Walk when you can. Teeny things added up, do amazing things. Please stop giving so much of your money to malls and fast food chains. Let's please try to be more conscious.
Listen, I'm not naive- I know the other thoughts. As my boss said today- "Hunny, mother nature is going to do what she does and when the world implodes, it just will." Although I believe that the foundation of that sentiment is rooted in "hopefully not in my lifetime and I don't want to change my consumption lifestyle"- I understand that mother nature is willful and mysterious. My point is- the unnecessary suffering and catastrophes that can be avoided by a more conscientious society, should be avoided.
You know who is at the top of the global, over-consumption list? Yep, you guessed it, Americans.
Get in touch with bigger things, like nature and your own mind and heart and interpersonal relationships with not just loved ones, but your community. Then, instead of donating 10 through cell phone donations to climatic tragedies, we'll be using that money for joyful, happy things. Things like planting a garden or helping the elder generation or people in poor, urban areas and education. Look around. See what you don't need. Donate it.Think if you REALLY need something before you buy it. Plant something.I'm not saying live without fun things, but think about avoiding typical excess. Even if and when it does implode , we can at least look back or in the mirror and feel we've respected the earth we were given. In turn, we won't have to see so many tears and tragedies. And mostly, we'll be more in touch with peace and love. I sure know you won't find those things in a dollar bill or a store.
I guess I am a hippie.

Oh, Summer!

*With her permission of course, I am re-blogging my friend, Donna's blogpost below. She's quite the writer and I thought that this captured a summer feeling so well. A feeling we should always have. You are a human 'being' and not a NUMBER. Always make time for play! SInce it is August 10th, I also thought it would inspire you to be outdoors more and really appreciate this sunny, warm, free time of year before it gets cold again.
You can read more of her lovely blog here - www.fitnessandfreedom.com

Oh, Summer!
by Donna Clark Wagner
Summer's here, when the kids are enjoying leisurely mornings, offsetting the rest of the day so they find themselves eating breakfast at 11:00 and lunch at 3:00, everyone hanging with at least one friend if not two or three so that my house becomes a whirlwind of laughter, noise and activity, the boys rough housing, shooting hoops for hours then busting through the door with that lovely outdoorsey scent only a sweaty teenage boy can vent. They eat everything in sight, leaving a trail of mess behind them. The girls constantly giggle, listen to ipods and love trying new nail designs with neon colored nail polish. They all stay up late with no thought of waking to an obnoxious alarm clock the next day, they hang at the mall and everyone wants to go in ten different directions at the same time.

What is that? I'm OK with it really. It's Summer right? Kinda forget as an adult what it was like as a young person. Do you remember Summer as a young person?... Oh, to have that time of life back again... hanging with neighbor friends, riding bikes for hours, going to the park playing frisbee and looking for cute boys, walking to Dairy Queen and enjoying icecream without worry of belly bulge, blasting the music out my bedroom window as we sunbathed on the roof or swam in my back yard pool all day... I even remember thinking to myself one Summer day as I splashed water on my sunkissed face while lounging on a raft in the pool and watching my dad rush off to work ... "I should really enjoy these days... when else in life will I have a chance to be so care free... it's sure to become more complicated when I get older and have a family and responsibilities." I was rather wise for my age, giving myself permission to be carefree, understanding summer is a unique time for a young person, to be embraced as a once in a lifetime opportunity to chill and enjoy before real life comes crashing in full force.

Today as I reminisce, I smile as I listen to the laughter, watch the horseplay and smell the effects of playing hard. When I start to feel stressed or frazzled due to their lack of structure I will remember it's ok to allow for some of that as long as they have some semblance of productivity in there somewhere. Which they do.... thank God. But for the majority of the summer I want them to be carefree kids, creating lasting, lifetime memories to tuck away as part of their journey before life launches them into the real world, when such long stretches of leisure are bound to slip away in exchange for new seasons of maturity and responsibility. Watching them enjoy their season of "young, wild, and free"reminds me to keep embracing my new seasons too, tucking away the unique blessings that come with each one, not rushing ahead trying to live in the next, but relishing the here and now. It's good to know that even though seasons may change, each one is uniquely loaded with surprises, goodness and this amazing thing called life.

U2 BY U2-A Biography

I am an avid reader, and biographies, by far, are my favorite. Add to that my love of music, and you can imagine I've read many, many musical biographies. They've ranged from the downfall of 17th century classical to the tragedy of Kurt Cobain. The debauchery and genius of Led Zeppelin to prohibition and heroin addiction in the Jazz era. Yet, I must say, this biography of U2 that I just finished is, by far, the best music biography I have ever read. It's told first person through the four member's (Larry, Bono, The Edge and Adam) voices.
It's about the meaning of being an artist- what it has meant to them. About spreading love, about helping to use that to change the world. About being poor, about becoming massively wealthy and what truly to do with that wealth. They talk of being very careful and thoughtful with the gift of your art and voice, and they do so with such eloquent language. There were many, many beautiful things about what it means to be a band and to try to utilize that art to change the world, spoken from the heart and with such a passion, that my copy of this book is dogged tagged with so many favorite pages, it would be hard to pass along.

You like biographies, or you like u2? You like something moving, something that inspires you to make change as well, or all the above? --read this book!

School Of The Seven Bells- The Heart Is Strange

Heard these guys on an underground NYC station (91.5) this morning and thought they were sexy and cool. I have very little techno music in my library--but if techno does come in, it has to be kind of ethereal and sexy, and these guys are both. It's fun if you're out dancing and it's not just danceable, but dreamy and not idiotic pounding bass lines.
The band is comprised of two twin girls and a guy all from right here in Brooklyn, NY. They just came out with a new record entitled "Disconnect From Desire". Check it out if you like this song. And you really can download it free at the listed site.

If you can't quite read all of it clearly, here is the awesome thing that is says:

"FIND LIFE EXPERIENCES
AND SWALLOW THEM WHOLE.
MEET MANY PEOPLE.
GO DOWN SOME DEAD ENDS
AND EXPLORE DARK ALLEYS.
TRY EVERYTHING.
EXHAUST YOURSELF IN THE GLORIOUS PURSUIT OF LIFE."
